Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 8, 2025

1. Introduction

Archive ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Archive mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the Service. Because Archive is currently in a limited beta, some features and data flows may change as we improve the product.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account & Contact Information

When you create an account or use the app, we may collect:

  • Email address – for account creation and authentication
  • Display name / username (optional) – for personalization
  • Profile image (optional)

2.2 User-Uploaded Images & Style Content

When you use certain features, you may upload or create:

  • Model photos – full-body or upper-body photos of yourself for virtual try-on or styling
  • Lookbook / vision board images – product images, inspiration photos, or outfit ideas you save to boards
  • Closet items – saved products, brand logos, and images you keep in your Archive Closet
  • AI style or outfit requests – the context you send to AI features (occasion, season, aesthetic, saved items)
  • AI-generated results – e.g. try-on outputs or outfit suggestions

Important information about uploaded images:

  • Images are stored on secure Supabase Storage buckets.
  • Images are typically accessible via unique, non-guessable URLs and are not indexed for public browsing.
  • Images may be sent to our AI providers (for example, FASHN or OpenAI) solely to generate the result you requested.
  • You can delete images through the app; deletions are applied within a reasonable period (usually up to 30 days).

2.3 Usage, Activity & Device Information

We automatically collect certain information when you access or use the Service:

  • Which brands/products you save, view, or interact with
  • Lookbook / vision boards you create, edit, or export
  • Virtual try-on usage counts (not the underlying photos)
  • Link interactions – when you tap a retailer or outbound shopping link, we may log brand, product, and timestamp
  • Device info – device type, OS, app version, locale, and basic diagnostic info
  • Log data – IP address, browser type (for web), access times, pages/screens viewed

2.4 Local / On-Device Storage

The mobile app uses local storage (such as AsyncStorage) to keep lightweight settings on your device, for example:

  • Whether onboarding is complete
  • Selected gender or aesthetic preferences
  • Cached model photo URL for faster try-on

This data stays on your device unless the app needs to sync it with our backend to provide a specific feature.

2.5 Publicly Available Fashion Sources

To power our trend discovery features, we may collect and analyze publicly available fashion-related content and metadata from third-party platforms (for example, social posts, fashion discussions, search interest, or resale signals). We generally store only derived or aggregated insights (such as trend scores, mention counts, or popularity rankings) rather than the original content.

2.6 Categories of Personal Information (California)

For California residents, we may collect the following categories of personal information, as defined by the CCPA/CPRA:

  • Identifiers (email, IP address, device identifiers)
  • Internet or other electronic network activity information (app usage, clicks)
  • Geolocation at a general level (inferred from IP, not precise GPS)
  • Inferences drawn from your use of the Service (interests, aesthetics)
  • Audio/visual/image content you upload (model photos, lookbook images) – processed solely to provide the Service

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Create and manage your user account
  • Display your profile, closet items, and vision boards back to you
  • Power AI features such as outfit generation, try-on, and style suggestions
  • Personalize your feed based on saved brands, aesthetics, and current trends
  • Improve the Service by understanding usage patterns and feature performance
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical or security issues
  • Enforce our Terms of Service
  • Comply with legal and regulatory obligations

We do NOT sell your personal information, and during this beta we do NOT use your images or closet data for advertising or affiliate monetization.

4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Only)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract: to create and maintain your account and provide the Service.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the Service, understand usage, and improve features.
  • Consent: for optional features such as AI image processing or uploading model photos.
  • Legal obligation: when we must retain data to comply with law.

5. AI, Image, and Style Processing

5.1 How It Works

When you request an AI-powered feature (for example, “generate an outfit for fall using my saved items” or “virtual try-on”), we may send the necessary inputs to trusted AI providers (such as OpenAI or FASHN) so they can generate the output you asked for.

5.2 Data Sent to AI Providers

Depending on the feature, this can include:

  • Images you upload for try-on
  • Product or brand images used to create a style visualization
  • Textual context like occasion, season, aesthetic, and saved items

5.3 Purpose-Limited Processing

These third-party AI services process your content solely to return the result you requested. We do not permit them to use your personal photos for their own marketing. Their processing is subject to their own privacy terms.

5.4 Your Control

You can delete uploaded images and, where available, AI results inside the app. We will remove them from our systems within a reasonable period.

6. Biometric or Image-Based Information (Certain U.S. States)

Some states, including Illinois (BIPA), Texas, and Washington, have laws governing the collection and use of biometric identifiers and information. If we process face or body images in a way that could be considered biometric under those laws, we will:

  • Collect and use that information only to provide the feature you requested;
  • Not sell, lease, or trade your biometric or image-based information;
  • Retain it only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service or as required by law; and
  • Delete it upon account deletion or your request, subject to technical limits.

In the app, we may ask you to give explicit consent before uploading a face/body photo. That consent is intended to meet these state requirements.

7. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our website and web version of the app may use limited cookies or similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in
  • Remember your preferences
  • Measure basic traffic and performance

During beta, we do not use third-party advertising cookies. If that changes, we will update this Policy.

8. How We Share or Disclose Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:

  • Service providers who host, store, or process data for us (Supabase, Vercel, Expo)
  • AI providers (such as OpenAI, FASHN) to generate the outputs you request
  • Professional advisors (lawyers, accountants) where necessary to run the business
  • Authorities or law enforcement when we believe disclosure is required by law or to protect our rights or users
  • Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy

If we ever begin sharing data for advertising or affiliate monetization, we will provide additional disclosures and (where required) opt-out links.

9. How We Store and Transmit Data

We store your information using industry-standard security measures:

  • Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Supabase is used for database, auth, and file storage
  • Image assets (model photos, try-on results, board images) are stored in Supabase Storage with access controls
  • Access to data is limited to authorized personnel

The mobile app may communicate directly from your device to our Supabase backend using app-safe public keys, protected by row-level security, to fetch trend data, closet items, and vision boards.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

10. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States and your information may be stored and processed in the U.S. and other countries where our service providers operate. These locations may have privacy laws that are different from those in your country.

Where required (for example, for EEA/UK users), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or equivalent mechanisms to lawfully transfer personal data outside of your region.

11. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.

11.1 Typical Periods

  • Account/profile data – while account is active
  • Uploaded photos / try-on results / board images – until you delete them or close your account
  • Usage logs and diagnostics – typically up to 90 days for troubleshooting

11.2 Account Deletion

When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data within about 30 days, except where we must retain certain records for legal, security, or fraud prevention reasons.

12. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA):

  • Right to know what personal information we collect about you
  • Right to request deletion of personal information (with some exceptions)
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
  • At this time, we do not sell or share your personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA, so a "Do Not Sell or Share" link is not required.

EEA/UK users (GDPR):

  • Right of access, rectification, and erasure
  • Right to restrict or object to processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@archivecloset.com and include "Data Rights Request" in the subject. We will respond within 30 days (or as required by law).

13. Data Security & Breach Notification

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you within a reasonable time (and within any period required by law) via email or in-app notice with details on what happened and steps you can take.

14. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Our Service is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

For features involving photo uploads, we recommend users be 18 or older or have parental consent. We may disable or limit photo features for accounts we believe are under 18.

15. External Links

Our Service may contain links to third-party retailers or platforms. Their privacy practices are not controlled by us. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing information to them.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated policy here and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes affecting how we handle your images or personal information, we may also notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.

17. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us:

For GDPR/CCPA requests, include "Data Rights Request" in the subject line.

By using Archive, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
